Modern Warfare 3 developers not involved with Ghosts but hiring for work on ‘the most successful FPS franchise in video games’.
Sledgehammer Games is definitely working on another Call Of Duty title if the studio’s job listings are to believed.
Call Of Duty: Ghosts has been revealed, and Infinity Ward is at the helm for that title. Treyarch is still tied in with Black Ops series, so this leaves Sledgehammer Games, who developed Modern Warfare 3 in tandem Infinity Ward, unassigned.
Well, not quite unassigned. Recent job listings for Sledgehammer Games show the studio is hiring ‘top talent for our Call of Duty development team’, described as ‘the most successful FPS franchise in the history of video games’.
So Sledgehammer Games is working with Infinity Ward on Call Of Duty: Ghosts right? Not according to their official twitter account, which sends best wishes to Infinity Ward but clearly notes “our team is heads down on our next project.”
That Sledgehammer is working on a new Call Of Duty isn’t new information – job listings dating back to early April for Sledgehammer Games have similar job descriptions – but it’s important to note given the new context of the Ghosts announcement that there seems to be another Call Of Duty title in the works.
If Treyarch is working on the Black Ops series and Infinity Ward is working on Ghosts, what is Sledgehammer Games working on that’s Call Of Duty related?
Modern Warfare 4 is the logical guess – Activision isn’t likely to abandon the Modern Warfare brand it’s been building up since 2007 and Modern Warfare 3 is Sledgehammer Games’ most recent project.
It’s possible Activision will keep quiet on this project for a while, as it might want the attention to be focused solely on Ghosts, but it’s worth keeping an eye on Sledgehammer Games and its Call Of Duty project.
